The Best Automatic Smooth Stone Generator. Bedrock 1.20 and beyond!

In this post BiomeNomad will show you how to craft the best automatic smooth stone generator. The biggest feature for this design is that it is very simple to make. It is a slight modification to the simple automatic smelter in a previous post.

If you are anything like BiomeNomad and like to craft machines and devices in Minecraft, smooth stone blocks might be the perfect building block for your creations. Smooth stone does not naturally occur in Minecraft.

Since they are not naturally found in any biome in Minecraft, if you happen to mine up to some, you know you are on the other side of one of your own creations. These are great for builds that are hidden in caves and underground. I tend to use them in many of my secret bases.

What Resources are needed to craft the smooth stone generator?

In order to make the smooth stone generator in Minecraft bedrock 1.20 you will need the following materials.

materials needed to create a smooth stone generator

Above are the items you will need to craft in order to build this simple smooth generator in Minecraft bedrock 1.20.

6 Chests

The chests require a total of 48 wooden planks, they can be made from any kind of wood. Gather them from any forest, or another good place to look is mineshafts. Don’t forget to bring your AXE! – You only need 6 chests if you want to make double chests for the input, output and fuel chests.

2 Furnaces

The Furnaces are the easiest part to collect materials for this automatic smelter. You will just need a total of 18 cobblestone and a crafting table to create the Minecraft furnaces.

5 Hoppers

The 5 hoppers will require 5 Chests(see below) and 25 iron ingots. In order to create the hoppers, you need to open a crafting table and have those items listed in your inventory. The best place to find iron ore and the wood for these at the same time is in a mineshaft. The mineshafts can usually be found in large cave systems throughout the world of Minecraft.

Where to build the smooth stone generator

The best place to build this simple device is inside of a base under a roof. I prefer to build them in a cave system base or at least one with a roof on it to avoid being hit from above by phantoms.

**If you do build this outside in the open, it is best to surround it with some fencing and a gate so you can keep creepers out. It is still best to do it inside of a base do you can go AFK while the ORE is smelting.

Steps to Build a smooth stone generator

Step 1 – Place the output chest

Output chest - this is where all of the smooth stone or other items end up

This chest should be placed in a hole in the floor as seen above. If you don’t place it a few blocks down, it ends up being too tall and you will need a ladder to reach the chest where you place the cobblestone.

Step 2 – Place the output hopper on the top of the chest

output hopper on top of the output chest.

Be sure that the hopper is facing down into the chest of the smooth stone generator.

Step 3 – Place the furnace on top of the output hopper

furnace on top of the output hopper - smooth stone generator.

Sneak while placing any build on top of a hopper, otherwise the hopper will just open up like a container. Since I have a wall behind me I was able to just click the furnace onto the wall above the hopper.

Step 4 – Place input hoppers and input chest

input hoppers along with the feed chest for smooth stone generator.

The hopper above the furnace should point straight down into

Step 5 – Place furnace on top of hopper

step 5 place the main furnace on top of the hopper

This is the first furnace that the materials pass through, it will turn the cobblestone into stone.

Step 6 – Place input hoppers for primary furnace

Place input hoppers for the main furnace

One hopper should point directly into the top of the furnace and the other should point into the side. The hopper on the side can be done on either the right or left side of the furnace.

Step 7 – Place input chests – Complete

input chests

I use a double chest up top so I can place a lot of materials in there. The chest on the side is used for fuel so it does not really need to be a double.

Step 8 – Load the smooth stone generator

Load the input chest with cobblestone

Place your stacks of cobblestone in the top chest, it will use the hoppers to feed the first furnace.

Step 9 – Check materials in both furnaces

cobblestone being smelted to stone

The upper furnace should show cobblestone as the input and Stone is the result. If you open the lower furnace, you will see Stone as the input and the result should say smooth stone.

Step 10 – Collect the finished materials!

finished smooth stone

The chest at the very bottom will collect all of your smooth stone. It is a good idea to check the fuel levels every time you empty the lower chests. If you run out of fuel or cobblestone, the machine will stop working.

Alternative fuel sources

lava buckets as fuel

If you run out of charcoal or coal, you can use lava buckets as fuel. You need to place them directly in the oven. They will allow you to smelt a large stack or stone or cobblestone. You will end up with an empty bucket in the next furnace once it runs out. I prefer to use coal as the fuel.
